My biggest passion these last couple of months has been stranded colour work. And not just any kind of colour work, but going back to my roots and knitting traditional Norwegian mittens (generically known as Selbu mittens, even though most of my patterns are not in fact, from Selbu, just Norwegian) and socks.
What I love about these are the symmetrical colourwork, without long floats or too many colours going on at the same time. Just a chart and no fiddely instructions. It’s like eating chips, once you start it’s impossible to stop.
The pattern for these mittens can be found in “Votteboken”, although I have seen a very similar pattern in pt. design 82.
Needles: 2.5mm & 3mm
Yarn: Smart Superwash, 1.5 ball & Dale (of Norway) Falk 0.7 ball. I’m stashbusting for all my yarn these days.
And it took me about 3-4 days to actually knit them, with a little waiting inbetween to do the thumbs.
The selbu modern is going along nicely. The only thing that really worries me is that it will be too short. But as I went up to 3mm on the body of the hat I don’t think that should be a problem.

In real life the colours are a lot brighter!
