As I’ve mentioned before I’m in school, studying to become a librarian. This apparently means that all our books need to be huge, about 1000 pages each. The main problem with this is the fact that I cannot take them with me home, I’ve tried and it took some time for my back to heal ![]()
Well.. Not really, I just don’t see the point in carrying them around town.
I love the class (Classification) I did this for. We’re working on the Dewey Decimal Classification system at the moment, and constructing the numbers for books/documents feels like solving puzzles. We get one clue, the title of a book (non-fiction) and then try to find the right number for it. Logical but obscure work. And a bit more fun to work on than MARC-records, which is a pretty anti-intuitive system based on how books were recorded before we started using computers. But that’s a rant I’ll save for another day…
