About transportation on saturdays

June 30th, 2007 by Cecilie | No Comments | Filed in Knitting, Random

I’m once again moving, as I tend to do every damn summer, or at least have the last four. This time though I actually have to help clean up the place I’m moving into as well as clean out my old place AND get all the stuff moved AND paint some rooms AND… well, stuff.

I want to rant about stuff happening with me and others around me, but I’m not.
I’m not going to talk about how much I hate/loath taking trains on saturdays since only about half of them actually go when they’re supposed to, and say it in a knitterly way: Instead of commuting from my new place to my old and back, something that normally takes 1.5 hours, I waited enough to make half of the second Embossed Leaves Sock.

Yay for public transport on weekends… But it’s still better than driving, I mean, I get to knit.

SandnesGarn

June 28th, 2007 by Cecilie | No Comments | Filed in Random

SandnesGarn is Norwegian yarn company, they are actually a working mill at the moment as well. Since they’re doing all these things, as well as distrubuting the yarn themselves one would think editing their yarn on ravelry was easy, eh?

Ah, no… their website dosen’t even have a complete list of their current yarns and just forget about the discontinued ones, because they apperntly have. This is making me groan.
The fact that they changed their name from Sandnes Uldvarefabrik AS a couple of years ago dosen’t really help either.

My main pet peeve is how hard finding the info I need is though, so tomorrow I’m going to call the company and see what they can do for me on that end of things. This probably wouldn’t be needed if it was an american company since their yarn is being sold all over the web with info, but mine isn’t ;)

Thomasina posted a “Yarn Weight System” on Ravelry, and I love it

  • WIP: Embossed Leaves

    June 26th, 2007 by Cecilie | 1 Comment | Filed in WIP

The embossed leaves socks (second pic on the page) are going nicely.
Well, sort of nicely. It asks for a tubular cast-on, and since I was casting on at my parents house, there were no instructions on how to do it. So I just did the regular long-tail. Ooops. Not knitting just wasn’t an alternative at the time.

After that initial mess up, they’re flying off the needles. I started friday and will probably be done with the pair in a couple of days.
    That’s how fast it’s going.img_4094.JPG img_4096.JPG

It’s fun. The only problem is that the pattern is too involved for me to be reading while knitting, and I’ve been to the library and gotten some books…
That’s a topic for another day though.

    Why I buy

    June 22nd, 2007 by Cecilie | 2 Comments | Filed in Random

It always feels like I have really good reasons (not excuses, but reasons) for buying yarn. So good reasons in fact that I’m willing to share them.

Thursday was my last day at school, after dancing around in my apartment I went to town to get a couple of small things (a set of 3.5mm bamboo needles and a new piercing).
The first stop was at Tjorven Garn, a shop I love. Unfortunatly they were sold out of their 3.5mm needles, so I had to go along. Then I rememberd the pattern for a crochet shopping bag in knit.1. So I got the cotton for that.

Reason: A reusable shopping bag saves the enviorment (remember that I’m a hippie) and one should support LYS’s

Next up was Scorpius for a cheap re-opening of my nose piercing. That went fine, when I stopped bleeding.
While sitting there, holding a tissue to my nose to catch the blood I noticed something strange….

Reason: I’ve been lusting after sari silk yarn for years. Just finding it there was too much, and too cheap, not to come home with me.

    Lastly:
I had to get the needles, but realised I could pick them up as I went home. At Strikkedilla, next door to the train station.
Where I realised they had this sock yarn

Reason: Duh! It’s the Summer of Socks, and I have projects planned.

    Amigurumi

June 20th, 2007 by Cecilie | No Comments | Filed in Random

Strange… I suddenly feel the need to crochet up small “toys” and decorate the place with them.

Amigurumi is a nice example. Especially considering some of the talent people are making patterns with.
If you don’t want to buy one to try it Crochet-me has a collection of free ones, or go to the blog Free Amigurumi to have a look.
Or go to Anti-craft and see something a little more edgy…

Coming up: “Make your own shopping bag” and “Knitted toys”
